A. I think the only thing you can do is basically teach yourself how to trust him!and I guess because of your childhood he has to earn your trust. If i had to go through things like this when i was younger im sure i would have the same trust issues that you do, in fact I would most likely be worse as it sounds like you have almost managed to raise yourself and a lot of people couldn't do that! Theres not a lot i can tell you apart from try to relax a little, your in college and its an amazing experience, if you think something bad is always going to happen then your going to miss out on it! Just learn how to trust, it will take time as you haven't had that when you were younger, eventually you will probably find that without realising it you… [cont.]

Are you willing to make friends with a person who was abused in childhood?
Q. In my last couple of questions, I mentioned trust and relationship. I have difficulties trusting people and developing all kinds of relationship, because I have been hurt and damaged so much in my childhood, I am scared and shameful about my past. Now, as I was told and I realised, I need to start healing now and live a bright future that I can choose. I want to develop some valueable friendships. Do you think a true friend should be told my traumatic past and accept it as part of me? If yes, what should I also be aware of? To answer this question, could please you also read the questions I asked before, especially the one titled---Do you think this is childhood abuse? the damage is permanent.? Thank you very much indeed.

A. When I make friends I have boundaries set to safe guard me. When I first start a friendship my boundaries are way out there, I get to know someone, see who they are, and how they treat others. As the friendship grows in a positive way, I bring that person in closer. This continues until I feel that they are at an ok distance. I do not share my personal tragedies with everyone. What happened to me, the pain I have went through is something I share with my closest friends. I don't put my past history on display for everyone because I don't trust everyone. There are people I work with who have no idea about my private life because I keep it private. The women's group I belong to is the same way, I don't share my deepest secrets with all of… [cont.]

Trust issues, anxiety... Childhood?
Q. From the time I can remember to this very day I have terrible trust and anxiety issues. I have been to doctors time and time again and all they say is that it all stems from my childhood. I battle with anxiety daily, some days worse than others. Trust is something I have for no one, not even my fiance. He has never given me a solid reason not to trust him, yet I don't trust him one bit. The doctors say it is because I had a physically/verbally alcoholic abusive father... He made all of our lives a living hell and still does to this day. He will not admit it and it seems like he has no affection what so ever for anyone. He has always treated my mother like a piece of dirt, in front of only us (his daughters), yet to this day she is still… [cont.]

Cant trust after childhood sexual abuse?
Q. I am a mother of 3 and have been married for almost a year. Now that I am at a place in my life where I should be happy, All my childhood memories keep popping up and haunting me. As long as I can remember I was molested by family members. I cant even recall a time that I was not. I thought it was normal because it happened to alot of my family members, and my sister. It happened to my mother and aunts when they were young, it happened to my cousins. I never even knew it was wrong. Then when I was 13 I lost my virginity to a 29 year old. I was on so many drugs at the time I barley remember it. I do remember telling him no alot of times, but I was pretty much passed out. You are not alone nor are you abnormal, because you have just became the voice for thousands of people who have experienced a similar situation such as yours. I think that counselling is great but it will also resurface emotions that will be painful for you , but by working with your councillor you will begin to see the knotted pieces of your family and childhood pain, and the reasons why you were prone to abusive relationships. when you say that you are affected now because you have your life together, do you feel like you have unfinished business with your family sisters, mother aunt...? have you talked to them about how you feel? What type of food should I feed a new siberian puppy from childhood to adulthood?
Q. I have heard that for feeding your siberian husky that you shouldn't trust commercial dog food such as pedgree and other's. That it is better to feed them raw steak and eggs, or raw eggs and chicken breast's. Is this true and should the chicken be stripped of the bones and just the meat to insure that the dog doesn't choke. Also when the pup is young and fresh from the breeder what should i feed him for how long, until he is ready for the transition of food?

A. First of all I want to say that your life is not far off of being common. I am not saying that that behaviour is to be accepted or to make light of it in anyway. I am just saying that society is growing old with many families being affected like this but there is hope. I too was a victim of this behaviour and it isn't until now that I am able to deal with a lot of the problems that arise from the cause and effects of my past, but that isn't an excuse just the fact of what was and the fact that today is and was affected. I am trying to explain so we can all get back on track with our lives. I have found that running into relationships was only adding on to the already monumental issues that have caused for myself by running. I am sober… [cont.]

Does religion reinforce childhood thinking patterns?
Q. Thinking patterns such as: - Naive trust of those in a position of authority (parents, community leaders, etc.) - Belief in the efficacy of magical thinking (your thoughts/prayers have some effect on the external world) - The assumption of absolute control in the world (which for a child would feel like security) What do you think? Is religion simply reinforcing childhood thinking patterns to keep people in a "child position" within the social construct? I think religion is more than that though.

A. In childhood, probably. But religion is supposed to help you mature in spirit. You leave childish ways behind and take on the perspectives of an adult. Then you realize that God isn't an authority figure, prayer isn't only about asking God to do things, and God's love isn't "magic."

Do people who grew up with abusive parents learn over time how to trust their partners?
Q. My boyfriend doesn't trust anyone and feels like everyone's always just going to leave him and run away so he tries not to be too emotional and tries to be as independent as he can and that's driving me crazy because I love him and want him to get out of his shell but he doesn't share his life much. He's had a very bad childhood and I understand his need to be independent but will he ever open up? What do you think I can do to just make him a happy person?

Q. Is it possible to love without trusting?Or reversely is it possible to be trusting while being unable to love due to childhood hurts etc causing a frozen/shutdown heart(lack of compassion, inability to feel love, warmth or passion)? A. Well, don't get to close too fast. Emphasis on TOO FAST. I think if you look long enough you will find true friends. But, true friendship is not made in a single day. It is a bond forged over years and years. So remember that, so you won't have that again. That should also help you and stop the trippin. Good luck on your quest. EDIT: I can understand how you feel, that after years of friendship, sudden betrayal would really hurt. But I think you really had bad luck and chose the wrong friends. If you have patience, you will find people you can truely call friends so don't give up. Also, you can judge a person quite well when you need their help (if you are really in need of help, that is). Do they offer you help without you asking? If so,… [cont.]

Does anyone have recomendations on books on self-esteem issues, guilt issues, trust issues, etc?
Q. I have had a really hard time lately, with the increase of stress in my life, in dealing with these issues. As far as the trust issues... I do have a history of dating men who have lied and cheated on me, and my father cheated on my mother, which led to their divorce when I was in my teens. my boyfriend had an abusive childhood and doesn't seem to trust me?

A. That is not something you can force. Try and push it too hard and you'll overstep and infiltrate his personal bubble, which would likely scare him off. Just be understanding of what he needs.

Is a bad childhood reasons for pent up anger/trust issues or is that just a petty excuse?
Q. I get angry very quickly, and I'm not sure how to control it really. I'm very outspoken, and I usually say outloud what pops into my head, there are very little things I keep in my head, and it's not what I mean to do, it's just a natural thing for me, therefore this isn't always the best. Me and my boyfriend are currently going through problems at the moment because I have trust issues with him, and can be very argumentative. I get upset if he so much as hugs or texts another girl, like really really upset, and I take it out on him. The problem is, he doesn't know anything about my childhood, and just thinks I'm being a complete bitch. My dad used to hit my mum when they were together, and once beat her senseless because she had an 'ugly… [cont.]

A. Of course your childhood has an effect on who you are today. My past has made me have trust issues. My boyfriend had a similar situation to you, he has trust issues too. And sometimes he's very selfish, but that's because he got hurt and he felt worthless when he was young. So he thinks about himself a lot these days, because nobody ever did. Perhaps you should talk to your boyfriend. Tell him about your past. My boyfriend told me about his past, and I understand. Especially when we have arguments. I get very jealous like you, I get jealous if he talks to a girl, or laughs at one, anything really. It's silly, but it helps to talk to your boyfriend about it. I always tell my boyfriend that I'm jealous about something or whatever, and he… [cont.]

Do people that have so much faith and trust in goverment?
Q. and politicians have insecurity issues? Were you raised by a single mother and absentee father? Did you not even know who your father was? For someone to put so much faith in wealthy politicians who really don't give a damn about anybody, one would've had to experienced abandonment to some degree in their childhood.

A. I put my faith in God. Not government. btw I did know my parents and they feared god just like I do. Fearing government is an understatement.

A. I think obesity is a problem not just in children but a lot of adults as well. I think many adults havent learned proper diet and excersice so how can they teach their kids. Preventing it- well it could be lowering prices on healthy food versues junk food- a poverty family can afford more kinds of junk food to feed a family than they can feed on healthy. Also having more free activities for kids to get involved with- I mean kids would play more sports before but parents cant afford today alot of the prices for these things now days. Having more for them to do in the community would be nice. I think by helping our kids help other people instead of calling them names- like a heavy child being called fat could be more helped by our children… [cont.]
