How much is a 1 cent Elizabeth 2 Del Gratia Regina coin from 1957 and 1962?
Q. I have 2 one cent coins that I want to know how much they're worth.
Asked by Court - Mon May 23 19:43:29 2011 - Hobbies & Crafts - 2 Answers - Comments

A. You don't say what country they're from. If no country name appears, it's Great Britain and those would be large pennies. They're worth a minimum of 25 cents each as collectible coins and have about 8 cents worth of copper in each. If they're from Canada, they don't have any collectible value, but they each contain more than 2 cents in copper. They're worth hanging onto. Other countries would need to be researched but the copper value alone will exceed any face value. Except for Canadian coins, the rest are probably obsolete as currency and have no face value anyway. They would have collector value only.

What would happen if I mailed something with a 39 cent stamp?
Q. Would they mail it back or deliver it? Are the 39 cent stamps already invalid?
Asked by d7a7z7e7d - Tue Jun 19 23:27:22 2007 - Other - Business & Finance - 2 Answers - Comments

A. I'm a mailman and for the first 2 weeks after the price increase the Post Office has a grace period. After that they usually send it back or if it's too close to destination they try and collect from the person that the letter is addressed to. We sell 2cent stamps in all the lobbies if you need to purchase... hope this helped you... ;)

What is the value of an incorrectly minted 1975 Canadian 5 cent coin?
Q. I received a 5 cent 1975 Canadian coin as change. The coin has a minting flaw, such that the obverse and reverse are not properly aligned (the reverse is crooked by about 15 degrees). The reverse side also has a much higher-than-normal relief, suggesting an unintentional, high-pressure strike. Is this a known or rare flaw, and what are the auction and street values of the coin?
Asked by temporos - Tue Jul 13 02:13:25 2010 - Hobbies & Crafts - 1 Answers - Comments

A. A 15 degrees rotation is not very much so little value is added. Also having a higher pressure strike does not add much value either. Both things are quite common and you might get an offer for $1-$2 for it. The errors are known and are quite common.

Why are 50 cent coins are bigger than silver dollars but they are worth less?
Q. Why are 50 cent coins are bigger than silver dollars but they are worth less? How come nickels are worth less than dimes but are bigger? Is it because of the metal they use?
Asked by xvanderwey - Sat Jan 24 18:02:55 2009 - Economics - 2 Answers - Comments

A. There isn't really any reason. These days the metal is worth nothing. A coin is simply representing a money value and isn't necessarily worth anything at all. It just happens to be that some coins are bigger than others. Funny story: In the old days, coins were made out of materials that were worth money. In Australia, our 50c coin had a bit of silver in it. Melted down, the coin was worth about 60c! So people bought heaps of 50c coins from the bank, melted them and made a 20% profit. They then changed the ingredients of the metal...

How many 41 cent stamps should I put on a letter?
Q. I sent a friend some money about 3 or 4 weeks ago with one 41 cent stamp on it. It still hasn't arrived. Was I supposed to put two? The money was dollar bills so it didn't way much. Help please!
Asked by Daniel - Sat Oct 9 15:12:23 2010 - Other - Business & Finance - 1 Answers - Comments

A. A first class stamp is 44C these days, but it should only take a maximum of 4-5 days to deliver a letter within the U.S. It would have been marked 'Postage Due' and your friend would have had to pay the 3C difference. By the way, the word is spelled 'weigh'.

What is the per cent discount a restaurant is offering for its large pizza?
Q. The restaurant sells the 30 cm pizza for $ 6 and the large 40 cm pizza is specially priced at $7. Give the answer in per cent.
Asked by Absolutely - Mon Jan 10 12:19:49 2011 - Mathematics - 5 Answers - Comments

A. A 40 cm pizza is 16/9 the size of a 30 cm pizza. It should cost 6*16/9 or $10 and 2/3, but instead it sells for $7 or $3 2/3 less. The discount percentage is 3 2/3 divided by 10 2/3, or 11/3 divided by 32/3 or 11/32. Multiply that by 100 to get percent, it's in the 34 range. _

Why do gasoline companies continue to use 9/10 of a cent in their prices?
Q. I understand that in the distant past, when prices at the pump were 5 or 10 cents a gallon, they would attempt to get a competitive advantage by using 9/10 of a cent. But it makes no sense to continue that pricing practice today. In fact, it probably costs more to have a portion of a cent in the prices.

A. they just want to get the last penny out of you-- and like theyve said, it adds up over 10-30 gallons, and then imagine all the cars that roll through there, then you have probably millions of gallons of gas dispensed throughout the course a gas station is open-- it really does add up. and you(for example) , as a consumer, dont realize it and/or dont care enough to do something about it.

A. Warning the Washington, Franklin issues had manny small marks that left them worth a great deal, others not so much, even used or mounted on a post card, or even a pre-printed post card, these are among the hardest issues in the US to properly ID without the proper books, and equipment. Take it to some one who deals in stamps and have it checked over. It may be worth 20 cents or $20,000 depending on just little marks you may not even see with the un-aided eye. Any stamp store, or stamp show can do this in about 10-mins. or less, and it is worth the time just in case you got one of the missing coil waste issues there. That could buy a new car. Good luck, however most are not worth much, but it can be, just a heads up, I have been… [cont.]

A. Depends on what you mean by "worth". It looks like between $1-$2. Now if someone asked me to trade a penny for a dollar... that's a good deal for me. Also, shipping would be a profit center (charge $1 for shipping) and pay 30cents. Check out the link: Slainte, -D

If you agree, they will put ads on THAT video. If you get 5000 views on a video they wil keep sending you these messages. Check out my channel. Is there a difference between the Lincoln Memorial Cent and the Lincoln Cent?
Q. Their is two different coin collecting books, one for the Lincoln Cent and the other for the Lincoln Memorial Cent. They both have over lapping years to this date. Does anyone know the difference between the two pennies?
Asked by hairballl5 - Fri Jun 27 01:26:01 2008 - History - 2 Answers - Comments

A. The US Mint put Lincoln on the cent beginning in 1909, the 100th anniversary of his birth. Fifty years later, beginning with 1959, the design of the reverse of the cent was changed to show the Lincoln Memorial. Before that they had two ears of wheat on the reverse and are commonly referred to as "wheaties". All are "Lincoln cents".

Stamp rate changed to 44 cents today. What is the grace period for using 42 cent stamps?
Q. I still have 42 cent stamps left over and I'm mailing something important today. Will it still work if I have a 42 cent stamp on it? What is the grace period for using 42 cent stamps regular snail mail?
Asked by blahblah - Fri May 1 13:10:23 2009 - Government - 8 Answers - Comments

A. You have till May 10. May 11 they will go from .42 to .44 cents. I just retired from the USPS. There is no grace period, but millions of letters will go through bc it would cost too much to have to catch every letter by the clerks and carriers. But there will be carriers who will stamp "postage due". I haven't seen letters get returned just for 2 cents, but if more is due on letter, it will be returned. And if you buy the "forever stamp" and you may only send 10 letters a month you only save 20cents. We don't know why people make a big deal on 20 cents in a month! How many times do people spend hundreds or thousands on an object and don't even think about it?

How can I tell if my mirror advertisement for 5 cent Coca-Cola is old or recent?
Q. I have an advertisement painted on the reverse side of mirror that looks like one of the old ads Coca Cola might have used. The only thing that makes me think it isn't old is a unpainted section that has an old time picture taped to the back of it for a 5 cent Coca Cola. She's removable and the paper itself feels fairly new. Can anyone direct me to the best place to date this?
Asked by Hard Hearted Hanna - Fri Aug 17 17:56:39 2007 - Search Engine Optimization - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Well the taped paper could be new and the mirror old. However, there are *a lot* of reproductions of these out there. Any antique dealer could tell you on sight if it's old or new. There is a different look to the older glass, mercury silver backing (which might have turned dark in areas) for the mirror, the color of the paint, and in a repro often a small trademark printing (though that could be on an older piece as well but will be on a newer one). The best I can tell you for sure - since I can't see it - is take it to a dealer or check out a collectors book (there are many) price guide to see if your item is in there.
